MD Issues Warning to Careless OHV Users

MD Issues Warning to Careless OHV Users

The MD strongly cautions area quad riders to adhere to municipal/provincial OHV bylaws and practice basic common sense.

This season, the MD has witnessed an inordinately high occurrence of violations to its OHV rules and regulations. Accordingly, the MD strongly cautions area quad/ATV/dirt bike riders to obey posted signs, adhere to OHV bylaws, and practice basic common sense.

The MD has a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to the misuse or unsafe operation of any OHV within its borders. If these violations do not stop immediately, Enforcement Services will be required to step in and take action. Penalties for non-compliance of OHV rules and regulations include fines and/or imprisonment.

The majority of OHV-related incidents are caused by unsafe practices that result in loss of control, rollover or collision. This can be caused by users being impaired, showboating, driving beyond their abilities, not realizing the capabilities of the OHV, or being inexperienced. Drivers are responsible for ensuring their own safety, including wearing CSA-compliant helmets when riding on public land. Riders must also be mindful of others in the community; with the reopening of MD parks and facilities, citizens are enjoying these areas in greater numbers.

MD Bylaw Outlines Basic Regulations

OHV users are advised to review and comply with MD Bylaw 2007-07; specifically as it relates to speed regulations, unauthorized use on a highway, travelling the shortest route from a residence to a trail, and other regulations. Click Here to review the Bylaw.
