Regional Library Services

Part of a distributed knowledge network.

In 1986, 21 municipalities formed the Peace Library System (PLS) with a shared mandate to ensure patrons in small, rural libraries enjoyed a standard of library service equal to those of urban centres.

Funding for Peace Library System is provided by municipalities, member library boards, the province, and by contracts-for-service with a number of school authorities.

The Peace Library System service area covers over 92,000 square miles (24 million hectares) with a current member population of over 153,000 in 38 municipalities. The MD of Lesser Slave River is proud to be one of the municipalities within this system. Residents and visitors alike can access local library facilities at the Smith Community Library, Flatbush Community Library, and the Slave Lake Regional Library.
